A Makeover Story- The American Ballet Theatre

The historic American Ballet Theatre in Manhattan recently underwent a beautiful transformation. The prestigious and renowned group has over 75 years of history and includes America's most revered ballet dancers; however, their home space was lacking the beauty and passion the company instills in its dancers.

The space contained old futons, outdated carpets and walls, and lacked the comfort the dancers needed to rest, relax, and mentally prepare themselves before practices and performances. Architectural Digest's Amy Astley took it upon herself to bring the community together in efforts to make this space a place the dancers truly deserve.

"Before"

Designer, Dan Fink, donated his time to design the space for the dancers. Century donated all the furniture to fill the space from our Thomas O'Brien for Century Collection. Sunbrella donated fabrics to ensure the new furniture was safe from spills, Hunter Douglas donated window shades, and Circa Lighting provided lamps and pendants to bring light to the space. Farrow & Ball donated the paint and Crosby Street Studios provided the custom carpeting. LG Signature also gave a TV for the dancers to review their performance videos. All of this along with an anonymous donor who generously contributed to the overall construction for the space.

"After"

Now this great American institution and the talented dancers who call it home have a space worthy of them and their beautiful art.  From floors to ceiling, the room radiates.  It is absolutely breathtaking.  We hope that it serves as a beloved and sacred space, fostering creativity and connection for years to come. No doubt for us, seeing the dancer's faces upon seeing the lounge for the first time was priceless!

A New York Minute

The snow did not stop me from visiting the New York showroom on this spring to look at new pieces and visit with some of the Century team. 

I started my day with a matcha latte and was ready to conquer the world (or the city, at least).

I attempted to walk to 200 Lexington Avenue from downtown, but like a true New Yorker, I hailed a cab instead. The cold was a little unbearable.

Once reaching the showroom, I was greeted by Adrianna and Julie, who graciously gave me a tour of the showroom.

I ended my day with a stroll to Chelsea Market, a visit to the Dream Hotel, and dinner at Mr. Chows. At the end of the night, I headed back to the suburbs, waving goodbye to the city that never sleeps.
