The Ingredients of a Great Sofa

Thomas O'Brien's Dunkirk Sofa AE-LTD5266-2

It's undeniably the hardest working piece of furniture in your house - the ever faithful sofa.
Through binge watching, channel surfing, snacking, and FaceTime, it is home base in many of our lives these days. But what makes one sofa outstanding and another simply .... meh?

It turns out, a LOT of love, engineering and quality goes into our sofas so each frame will serve you and your family well for years to come.  With Century, we offer a range of styles so that you can find the perfect sofa based on your height, intended use, and the wear you expect it to absorb. Beauty, style, and durability is what we deliver.

When selecting your sofa, consider several of the following things:
PITCH & DEPTH: These play a big part in how comfortable your sofa can be. Do you want the living room version of a twin bed (deep and low) and perfectly suited to hours of Netflix? Or do you prefer sitting up and entertaining with your favorite beverage?

ARM STYLE: A track arm is a perfect compliment for drinks, plates and laptops. An English arm is understated and easy to toss your legs over. A rounded sock arm? Custom made for a nap.

SEAT CUSHIONS: We have inserts that range from plush to firm, with Springdown available in three comfort levels to accommodate even the most discerning client's derriere.  Our Designer Studio is a great resource to view all of our cushion options so that you can pair your insert to its desired use.

Now to make it beautiful! The lines of our sofas are carefully sculpted and come to life with a stunning array of more than 1,000 fabrics, or your choice of materials.  Performance Fabrics by Crypton, Inside Out and Sunbrella offer a myriad of stain, sun and wear protections. With a variety of textures, you can create a piece that is crisp or cozy - your choice!

We build our sofas with quality components to enable this hardworking piece of furniture to endure with style for seasons to come.  Here are some of our favorites from the line.

Best Work from Home Desks

Marengo Secretary from Great South Bay, by Thomas O'Brien for Century

Like many of you, I have been working from home for the last few days.  While my dining room table makes a pretty good makeshift desk, I do rather wish right now that I had a home office complete with one of our Century desks where I could spread out without having to clean up every night.   Right now my dining room table consists of my laptop, a nerf gun (thanks to my 13 year old), a paper collage of the A, B, C's (thanks to my 5 year old), and several handmade letters complete with a box of stamps (again, thanks to my 5 year old).  It isn't sexy, it sure isn't organized or neat, at times it is productive, and at its worst it is a reminder of why I like my office in High Point.

So, I thought what better thing to do right now then shop for my ideal desk.  There are a lot of great ones to choose from and of course many finishes as well.  In no particular order, here are some of my favs from our line up.
And now, because you are still reading this, a picture of my working desk. Again, not glamorous, not sexy, but real and working.
